The Cheese Board
Olivia and I frequent the Cheese Board, because I love cheese, and she loves being served cheese samples. Each clerk will spend quite a bit of time educating you and providing small tastings of any cheese you ask about. Clearly, they'd like you to buy a few chunks, but they seem endless in their patience.
They have quite a few small, artisinal cheeses, as well as a selection if aged and other raw-milk cheeses. The baguettes are stellar, and while I have little or now sweet tooth, the pastries are quite good.
A nice Saturday outing is a trip to the Berkeley Farmers Market to pick up some charcuterie from the fatted Calf, swing back by the cheese board for cheese and head to the Berkeley Marina for a fantastic picnic.
For some amazing tastes, try St,. Agur, a wonderful Salty Blue, and San Joaquin Gold, a raw-milk Aged Cheddar from California. And our stand-by, Prima Donna Gouda, an aged Gouda with crunchy, wonderful crystals.
