Jodie's

On Saturday and Sundays you can try to squeeze into Jodies to partake in what I think to be the best fried chicken in the East Bay (could be the Bay Area, but I'm not well versed outside of the East Bay).

If you haven't been to Jodies, it's one of the best little secrets in the Berkeley/Albany border area. It's a breakfast and lunch counter that has (easily) several hundred dishes available -- most of which are on the wall (Jodie's Specials) and the menu (termed "pedestrian" by one regular).

Jodie scrapes the griddle clean between dishes, and it shows. Each dish is a wonderful spin on some classic, or some far-out creation that existed only in Jodie's mind.

The quarters are cramped -- MAYBE six people at the counter, two or three outside, but the experience is worth it.

Now that we have a toddler, we rarely go to sit down. Instead, we grab a few breasts and a drumstick, and head back out to the car to eat the tasty, crispy, salty goodness.

Chicken is only available on Saturday and Sunday.
