Meatball Pizza - Gioia Pizza
This has to be one of my favorites -- sadly it's not on the menu currently. It was promised as a seasonal, but it hasn't returned since last winter. The meatballs are sliced 1/4 inch thin, and absolutely fused with cheese and sauce to the excellent, yeasty, olive oil infused crust. The crust is extra crispy and wonderful. You should visit Gioia regardless, their selection of whole pizzas and pizza by-the-slice is totally worth a stop after visiting nearby Magnani's Meats or the Monterrey Market.
[Gioia Pizzeria 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. 1586 Hopkins St., Berkeley. 510 528-4692]
