Bay Area Restaurants to Try

My list:

An (seemingly) authentic, low-priced Yucateco Mexican restaurant:

Mi Lindo Yucatan

401 Valencia (at 15th)

415-86-4935

La Palma—a suppposed favorite for chicharrones.

2884 24th St., at Florida Street, (415) 647-1500.

Priya. It bills itself as North and South Indian restaurant.

"Pros:

Papadam, gulab jamon, Rasam, Kadi w/prakora, Aloo Gobi, Chicken Tika Masala, Tandoori chicken is a bit dry, Bagara rice is v good, onion pakora, banda, hot pickle, mango pickle, mango custard. $7.99 for lunch buffet up to 3 pm. Their naan is allright.

But the surprise dish is called CHILI CHICKEN and must be ordered from their menu. The head waiter gave me a taste when I asked them about the dish as they brought it to another table nearby. It had very slight crunch probably from frying it before hand and then coating it with very slightly spicy sweet sauce and with what looked like mint leaves. It was very delicious and reminded me of what Kan Pong chicken (Korean Chinese dish) that I lamented but it is different prep. My wife and I were both very impressed with this dish and only for like $5.99. This CHILI CHICKEN easily is my best find of the year along with the Vietnamese fish dish I had a while back. It really WOWED me and I had this dish AFTER a full load of great Indian buffet."
