Best Damn Salvadorian Food in the East Bay
Taqueria la Bamba (located at 12345 San Pablo Avenue, Richmond, CA - 510.235.2288 ) has some of the best Latin American food I have tasted that originated outside of a Mexican Taqueria or a Costa Rican restaurant. The food is prepared fresh, so it''s piping hot and unbelievably savory.
Their selections include standard taqueria fare, but with a heavy dose of Latin American cuisine. The Quesadilla is unparalleled in flavor, texture and size. The Papusa's are remarkably light betraying their masa origins, and the pork stuffing is a great compliment and texture to the crisp, corn-rich flavor of the shell.
The Fried Plantains are tasty, with a burnt caramel flavor and soft, flavorful texture are wonderfully complimented by the included sour cream and refried beans.
Most of the dishes are served with a wonderful curtido (traditional spicy slaw) which can be smothered over to add texture and a tart, spicy overcoat.
The salsa is wonderful as well - not bland, watery, overly hot or light - as favored at many taquerias, but a robust flavor, rich with texture and spices.
