Massive Mess
We had some work done on the house last week. The ceilings along the North side of our house were really destroyed - there was some water damage in its history. We had painted the ceilings when we moved in a year ago, but the ceilings just continued to crack and fall down. So we hired someone to take care of it for us. The idea of having it done in 3 days was much better than the weeks of time it would have taken us to complete it.
They started a couple of weeks ago, and weren't able to finish by the weekend. That was ok, because we headed down to Coachella, and we wouldn't have to put up with the mess for the weekend. The finally finished up on Tuesday night, and we had a huge job of putting the house back together.
Not only was all of our stuff laying all around the house, but everything (everything) was covered in a 1/2 inch of plaster dust. So we were faced with the task of moving things from one room to another, dusting things off, mopping the floor, tracking dust around, dusting things again, moving them around, stacking piles in the corner. It was like one giant puzzle, only a lot less entertaining.
The result, of course, is great. We now have a very clean house, we have removed a large amount of the clutter and trash that we no longer need, we alphabetized the cd's and washed the sheets.
And then.
And then we had 40 people over on Sunday for a baby shower. Jenny's friend Katie is pregnant and jenny decided to throw her a shower. We hired our friend Nancy to do the cooking, asked for help from various other friends and we were able to pull it off.
Nancy created some amazing dishes - smoke salmon on herbed cream cheese and pumpernickel bread, seared ahi and daikon in wonton shells with wasabi cream sauce, backed chicken drumettes in soy and ginger, asparagus bundles tied with leeks. In addition to all that we set out our favorite cheeses - parrano, aged gouda, chevre with truffles, and some other stinky-feet cheeses. It was quite a feast and everyone seemed to like the stuff that was prepared and served - thanks to Nancy.
