Throwing Muses Reunion

This weekend I was attending the Throwing Muses/Throwing Music Gut Pagent. It was a reunion of Throwing Muses and several Kristen Hersh solo shows.
The weekend started out with a Friday night solo/acoustic show at Noe Valley Ministry, where Kristen played a great set pulling from Sunny Border Blue, her previous solo records and even a Throwing Muses song or two. SheÕs incredibly fun to see solo. She tells stories, and jokes around, and when she plays, she seems to un-focus her eyes, and stare off toward the back of the room. She kinda looks insane. Then on Saturday, there was a brunch at Slims. This was basically some bad tacos in a buffet, and free soda. People milled around for a few hours, and then the Muses began their soundcheck. Soundcheck isnÕt a very glamorous process. It takes forever, with instruments being set up, then microphones, and then finally, after several hours, the band comes out and plays together. They played a few NEW songs, which was awfully cool, and then played a few instrumentals. And afterward, they played Throwing Muses Karaoke. Fans were selected to come up form the audience and sing their favorite songs with the band.
The folks that sang were great - not all in tune, but really good. It was fun to see fans who loved the band for years who probably had dreamed for years of performing on stage. And they got to select the songs, even. There was a break, and Jenny and I headed over the bridge, took the dog for a walk, ate some dinner, and then I got hit by food poisoning. I'll talk about that later, but the short of it was that we missed the actual show, which was unfortunate, but we got to see some great stuff.
