Zoe, Lee and Vickie
Jenny looked up a friend recently. Not an ordinary, run of the mill friend, but her best friend from when she was very young.
Her name is Zoe, and Jenny visited with her a few weeks back, brought back reports of how great it was to see her, and how cool her family is.
Well, it turned out that Zoe's mom, Vickie, was in town this past weekend, so we had a bar-b-que at Jenny's mom's house in Los Altos. It was a good time (aside from my being poisoned).
Jenny and I cooked a whole bunch of stuff, Jenny caught up with Zoe, and Carol (Jenny's mom) had a great time catching up with Vickie. Zoe and Lee (Zoe's boyfriend) brought along their dog, Stella, and their children Harmony and Serene. The kids cavorted in the pool, the adults indulged in beer and wine, talked about memories, music, and what's happened in the last 20 years.
It's still amazing to me that it's possible for me, or Jenny to have had friends for that long. I think of Eric Gagner and Aaron Hatz, and the fact that I've known them for 20 years or so. Aside from family, it's hard to believe that relationships can sustain for that amount of time. Friendships have wave lengths, where they can go dormant for a while, and pick up with the same strength again at a later point, further down the line.
It was fun to meet the folks that punctuate many of Jenny's stories. Lot's of stuff that Jenny relates to me involve place and people. It's easy for her to illustrate place - she just takes me there and points it out. But people, it's a slower process. There are so many people in Jenny's life to meet. And Zoe is a big one.
It was nice to have some of the details filled in.
