The Weekend in Review

Here's a rundown of what I did over the long haul of the weekend.

On Friday I took Jenny to the airport - she was heading off to Wisconsin for the weekend. On the way back, I tried to stop at Graybar (also known as gaybar) in South of Market. It's gone. It's a drywall shop now.

Then I headed across the bridge, did some work at home, and then took the dog to the Berkeley Marina. He loves it there, and whenever I take him there he's a very good dog for a while thereafter.

Monte came over later in the evening. We sat on the deck and drank Summit's and Anchor Steams while the sun set. We, as per usual, talked about art, music and other fun stuff. And we also discussed our Burning man projects, and agreed to pool resources and camp together.

On Saturday morning I met Teri at the West Oakland BART station and we headed out to look at some of the East Bay Open Studios. There were two disappointments - the first is that we were miserably lost for the most part (I don;t know Oakland at all) and the second was that the studios that we did visit showcased art that was really my type. Lot's of Berkeley Hippy Stuff, and some rather uninspired oil pastels.

We ate lunch at the Semifreddi's Bread Bakery and had a couple of tasty sandwiches. We parted ways at the North Berkeley Bart and I rode home.

I got home, walked the dog and headed for Home Depot. I needed to get there to pick up parts and supplies to build my Bucky Ball. I had to pick up 50 feet of 3/4" conduit, spray paint, hack saw blades, pipe cutters, drill bits, etc. I paid the total, dragged the stuff to my truck and headed home.

While unloading the gear my neighbors stopped by (Don and Brian). We began to talk about construction techniques and coverings. Don had a few ideas for creating patterns for the tarps, and he headed off to home to sketch them out.

After showering I headed over to Steve and MillicentÕs house to have dinner with them and Kate and Patrick. We had a few beers, and ate a great meal of pesto pasta and a good green salad. After dinner we debated about playing pool, but instead opted to play cards - a game called Cheat where the object is to lie. I liked it.

I headed home, went to bed.

On Sunday I woke up early, and began construction on the dome. I spent nearly all day cutting pipe and spray painting the lengths. I got sunburned the day before, and on Sunday I just compounded it despite the use of 45 SPF lotion.

I also did some gardening, cleaning up the front gardens and fertilizing the various plots. I also installed a small drip irrigation system in the back yard for the bamboo.

Done stopped over and discussed further issue with regard to the dome and itÕs coverings. We made (or he made) a lot of progress on the math front using a program called SolidWorks.

Patrick called and invited me to dinner, so I cleaned up and headed over to their apartment in Oakland. He had invited a coworker and her boyfriend, and we all had pleasant conversation. The menu was a trout salad with a horseradish dressing and a cold tomato soup with ancho chiles and cumin (it wasn't a strict gazpacho).

I, again, headed off to home, walked the dog and went to bed.
