1996 Coastal Trip

hi.

forgive me if i messed up in skipping one of your previous emails.... i am kind of lost today. long weekend. good weekend.

before i reply to your email let me tell you what happened.

On wednesday i rented a car. i wanted to go to my brothers house for thanksgiving and visit my nephew,(he's six weeks old) and so i left early on thursday morning for the two hour drive. he lives in vacaville, near sacremento. so. i went to his house and helped him with a few projects, hanging the x-mas lights, etc. so i generally had a relaxing day...

i went home, briefly to get some sleep. and the next morning i headed out for a trip up the coast. i had considered the desert (death valley) but it seemed like such a long drive, so i set my course north on route 1. i followed the coast for several hours, pausing at beaches and vistas, and basically entered a zen state following RV's and family wagons. the weather was amazing, the scenery breathtaking, and frankly it was exactly what i needed. i had everything i wanted, except for a place to stay. i continued driving well past dark, stopping on the side of the road, gazing at the stars, and breathing the cold air. it was nice. i entered the town of mendocino, and discovered all the lodging spoken for. (sorry, no vacancy). so i continued, up past drive through tree road (in the heart of the redwood forrest, you could really drive through the tree, and i did ((for three dollars))). i finally found a cabin at a place in garberville....just south of eureka california in humbolt county. it was a comfortable place with no tv, or telephone. i left my bags in the room and headed north to a reccomended pizzaria. i sat down, and drank a few pale ales, and had a wonderful eggplant garlic and tomatoe pizza. Headed back to the cabin to get some sleep.

the next morning i awoke early, and headed back up the coast, again stopping every once in a while to take in the view. I continued toward the oregon state line, and finally stopped in crescent city california, twenty miles to the border. i again, ate, and slept, and on sunday morning i hit the border and turned around, headed back home. it was an 8 hour drive all the way home. and i was exhausted when i arrived. it was really a great vacation.

i want to do it again this weekend.
